My favourite team is the Flying Fijians

The fidji's team is a maori's team and has them haka : The Cibi

Here is the lyrics :

Ai tei vovo, tei vovo
E ya, e ya, e ya, e ya;
Tei vovo, tei vovo
E ya, e ya, e ya, e ya

Rai tu mai, rai tu mai
Oi au a virviri kemu bai
Rai tu mai, rai ti mai
Oi au a virviri kemu bai

Toa yalewa, toa yalewa
Veico, veico, veico
Au tabu moce koi au
Au moce ga ki domo ni biau

E luvu koto ki ra nomu waqa
O kaya beka au sa luvu sara
Nomu bai e wawa mere
Au tokia ga ka tasere

Make ready, make ready,
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh,(spoken like warning in a cry before war)
Make ready, make ready
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh

Look here, look here,
I build a war fence for you,
Look here, look here,
I build a war fence for you

A rooster and a hen,
They attack, attack, attack
It is forbidden for me to slumber
Except to the sound of breaking waves

Your ship is sunk below,
Don't think I'm drowned too.
Your defence is just waiting
To crumble when I prick it

The Haka

450px_Allblackhaka_1_

The All Blacks perform Ka Mate before a match against France in November 2006

The Haka is a traditional dance from the maori of new zealand.

The dance is particulary using before sport matches and specialy for the rugby

The most famous dance is Ka Mate performed by the All Black and composed as a celebration of life over death.

This is the lyrics :

Ka mate, ka mate! ka ora! ka ora!                     its death! its death! its life! its life!

Ka mate! ka mate! ka ora! ka ora!                     its death! its death! its life! its life!

Tēnei te tangata pūhuruhuru                             This is the hairy man

Nāna nei i tiki mai whakawhiti te rā                   Who brought the sun and caused it to shine

Ā, upane! ka upane!                                         A step upward, another step upward!

Ā, upane, ka upane, whiti te ra!                        A step upward, another... the Sun shines!

Maori's Tattoos

Maori_Rugbyplayer_tatooed_1_

The tattoo came to New Zealand from Eastern Polynesian culture.

It's a symbol of the passage in the grow-up age and represent the identity of the individual, the social status, the heritage and his accomplishments. Every individual's tattoos were different.

The male facial tattoo is generally divided into eight sections :

  1. Ngakaipikirau (rank). The center forehead area
  2. Ngunga (position). Around the brows
  3. Uirere (hapu rank). The eyes and nose area
  4. Uma (first or second marriage). The temples
  5. Raurau (signature). The area under the nose
  6. Taiohou (work). The cheek area
  7. Wairua (mana). The chin
  8. Taitoto (birth status). The jaw

Boys received their first tattoos in their teens in a ritual setting, and by old age often had tattoos all over their bodies. Women were also tattooed, but not as extensively as men.
